Ernest C. Husson

Ernest C. Husson, 87, of Charleston passed away August 2, 2010.

He was born on July 16, 1923, and was the son of the late Very Rev. Raphael Husson and Josephine Husson.

He was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral.

Following Pearl Harbor, at the age of 17, Ernest was a member of the Army's Blackhawk Division communication section serving in Europe during World War II. After the war Ernest graduated from Worcester Technical School in Worcester, Mass. He continued his education to complete bachelor's degrees in math and science education and a master's degree in both education administration and counseling.

His expertise in education and counseling led to his demand in the educational community. Following his tenure as vice principal of Charleston High School, he was selected to be the first principal of Carver Vocational-Technical Center in Malden. He was a trainer-consultant for police officers, hospital emergency personnel, correctional counselors and administrators at West Virginia state prisons.

During his early years, after WWII, he was a member of Frankel's gymnastics and health club, teaching gymnastics and Jujitsu and was a fencing instructor at the YMCA. He loved his church community and assisted in initiating a Boy Scout troop while serving as superintendent of the Sunday school. Teaching was his life and, up until his death, he looked forward to substitute teaching at the Charleston Job Corps Center.

Ernest touched the lives of numerous people from many walks of life. His love for teaching was matched only by his love for his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Mary Yerrid Husson; daughters, Deborah Bertran and Denise Husson of Charleston; son, Mark Husson of Denver, Colo.; sister, Joan Husson of Charleston; brothers, Louis Husson of Charleston, Charles Husson and wife, Joan, of Newport News, Va., Raymond Husson and wife, Irene, of Arlington, Va., Edward Husson and wife, Eleanor, of Oakton, Va., and Richard Husson of New York City, N.Y.; sisters-in-law, Amelia Yerrid of Charleston and Janice Brabhan and husband, Arthur, of Clermont, Fla.; and grandchildren Jason Bertran of Charleston, Erica Joseph of Toledo, Ohio, and Christopher Joseph of New York City, NY. He took pride in his role as godfather to many nieces and nephews.

Ernest was a member and Past Master of Kanawha Lodge 20 AF&AM, as well as a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

The family would like to give special, heartfelt thanks to Liz Lena, R.N., from HospiceCare, for her tender, loving care during Ernest's illness, and to Dr. Alfred Pfister and staff for being his primary physician for the last several years of his life.
